Twilio Brings Cloud Communications to Windows Azure Mobile Services
SAN FRANCISCO, June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Twilio (http://www.twilio.com), the cloud communications company, today announced a renewed strategic relationship with Microsoft to make Twilio’s voice and messaging APIs easily available to Windows Azure customers. This includes expanding availability on Windows Azure Mobile Services, which became generally available today at the Microsoft //build/ developer conference. Twilio is present at //build/ and TechEd Europe.
Formally established in May 2012, the relationship between Windows Azure and Twilio has introduced Twilio to tens of thousands of Windows Azure developers, who now will have seamless access to the Twilio API within Windows Azure Mobile Services. Windows Azure Mobile Services allow developers to quickly build dynamic and engaging Windows, iOS and Android apps because the services make it easy to store data in the cloud, authenticate users, and send push notifications. Working with Twilio adds in-app messaging, VoIP calls, mobile app distribution, and more to the feature suite. Developers building Windows, iOS and Android apps will be able use Windows Azure Mobile Services with Twilio today via the new module available through Custom API scripts.
In step with the Mobile Services GA announcement and tighter technical integration, Twilio is happy to release:
- A tutorial for consuming Twilio SMS and voice through Windows Azure Mobile Services using the new module.
This integration allows Windows Azure developers to connect to Twilio and consume SMS and voice services by simply typing require(‘twilio’). Because they can jump right into the code that powers their innovation instead of writing glue code, developers can save time in development and maintenance.
- A sample iPad app that allows event organizers to easily capture contact information for volunteers, store it using Windows Azure Mobile Services and enable tap-to-call using Twilio Client to provide Twilio’s army of Doers with a glimpse of what’s possible with Twilio and Windows Azure.
Since Twilio has been available with Windows Azure, developers like Dan Wilson and Mark Olschesky, the team behind Triage.me, have built incredible apps. Triage.me allows patients to text a local number with their location, and the app replies with information about the nearest health care clinic and suggested transportation methods.
