Innovative Social Media Website Announces New Security Safeguards for Minors
Sqeeqee.com says it will follow industry protocols, including parental permission for use by minors
“We think it is entirely reasonable to be proactive in protecting minors from potential harm,” says Jenny Ta, chief executive officer of Sqeeqee.com. “We’ve therefore built protective procedures into the website and will continually review them. Some of us on the Sqeeqee administrative team are parents ourselves and share a common concern in making Sqeeqee.com both fun and safe.”
Minors seeking to open new accounts will see the following notification: “Welcome to Sqeeqee! We have sent a message to your parent(s) / guardian(s) asking them to confirm their relationship to you. You’ll be able to use your new Sqeeqee account and all its exciting features just as soon as we receive parent/guardian confirmation.”
The website then sends an automatic notification (using an internal messaging system) to the parent/guardian listed by the minor, asking them to confirm their relationship. Once this is verified Sqeeqee will allow the new user use of the Sqeeqee site and all its features. If Sqeeqee does not receive the necessary confirmation, the account will not be activated.
“These procedures are in line with those commonly used across the social media industry and will be familiar to our younger Sqeeqee users,” Ta adds. “We value their presence and trust that our unique and exciting set of website features will prove well worth any minor inconveniences necessary for their own security.”
In addition to Sqeeqee’s above registration procedures for minors, they and all other Sqeeqee users are protected by a security feature designed to block inappropriate or offensive content. Sqeeqee users can flag such content for review, and should five Sqeeqee users flag the same user content it is automatically removed from view until a determination is made regarding its appropriateness. Oversight options include re-allowing it, deleting it, or even closing out the offender’s account. Sqeeqee also uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption to enhance website transaction security.
Sqeeqee brands itself as the first social media site offering a “social networthing(TM)” experience. This gives individuals and organizations the ability to fully monetize their online profiles and share in advertising revenues, while socially interacting and making use of many popular features found separately on competing sites.
“We believe that combining the very best features of Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Amazon, Ebay, Kickstarter, Indiegogo, GoFundMe, Groupon and Pinterest makes Sqeeqee a logical starting place for those looking to maximize their social media experience,” says Ta. “And joining Sqeeqee is absolutely free.”
