Chron.com hits a billion page views for 2013
HOUSTON, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Chron.com, the flagship website of the Houston Chronicle Media Group and Houston’s most-read local news site, has topped more than one billion page views for the year.
“We reached the 1 billion page view mark for the first time in 2012 on Dec. 21. The fact we reached this milestone in the first week of November further shows Chron.com is Houston’s go-to source for breaking news and the site to read about what Houston is talking about today,” said Andrea Mooney, executive producer and director of digital content for HCMG. “We’ve made a number of significant consumer-focused changes to Chron.com over the last year, including enhanced coverage of Houston’s growing suburbs, a streamlined website layout, desktop and mobile design enhancement, and a new, robust commenting platform.”
The Houston Chronicle went digital on October 8, 1995 with the launch of Chron.com on the web and Houston Chronicle Interactive on Prodigy, which gave users access to bulletin boards and chat rooms. About a year later, the company focused all efforts onto Chron.com. Over the subsequent 18 years, the Houston Chronicle has continued to expand its multi-platform digital reach with the latest trends in technology and consumer on-demand services, including web, mobile, tablet, and electronic newspaper replica versions as well as social media channels. This year, Chron.com has experienced a 12% increase in audience growth and holds the number one position in the Houston market among local news providers, with its closest competitor holding less than half the market share of Chron.com.
Most recently, the Chron.com mobile site underwent a dramatic redesign in response to user feedback. The site launched this week with an improved consumer interface, allowing Houstonians faster access to Houston’s breaking news in diverse formats, including an enhanced video experience, more photos and quicker story reads.
The Houston Chronicle Media Group also provides a premium website, HoustonChronicle.com, as a subscription-based companion to Chron.com. The in-depth news focused site for insiders offers enterprise reporting, opinions from award-winning columnists, and includes all stories from the daily paper.
