New York, NY (PRWEB) February 24, 2014
What's one of the least likely, and coolest, places to hang with your professor during Brain Awareness Week? At The Bowery Electric, where Shift Communication's first benefit concert will feature a slice of New York Times heralded QualiaFest (http://nyti.ms/1jSVFHx) in the East Village of New York City, Thursday, March 13th, 2014. 8 pm to Midnight.
Rock Your Mind with us! Doors open at 7pm. Screening of The Feeling Brain, (http://bit.ly/1fonbwl) 8 pm sharp. 21 + (327 Bowery @ Joey Ramone Place [between E. 2nd and E. 3rd Sts.]). Ticket information: http://bit.ly/1mgm8nj. Subways: 6 (Bleecker St.); F (2nd Ave.).
The Amydaloids, who include author of The Emotional Brain and Synaptic Self, Professor Joseph LeDoux of the NYU Center for Neural Science (http://bit.ly/1buVXVn) and NYU Biology Professor Tyler Volk, will perform songs about the mind. They will be joined by Space Clamps, who feature Sara Steele, who studies auditory perception at NYU, and Erik Nylen, a pre-doctoral fellow at the NYU Center for Neural Science, as well as Super Small, which includes Daniela Schiller, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
“Rock Your Mind is going to be a great evening of music and magic,” says Joseph LeDoux. “The Amygdaloids will feature our conscious expanding songs about mind and brain and mental disorders. I'm really looking forward to this night.”
Magician Mark Mitton, a magic and special effects consultant, has made Will Smith appear in the middle of Times Square, directed a freak-show opening circus for Aerosmith, and taught sleight-of-hand and created special effects for Tony Shalhoub, Stanley Tucci, John Travolta, and John Lithgow. Mitton just performed for Facebook's 10th Anniversary Party in NYC, and via video conference for the engineers in Menlo Park, California. He's like Bob Newhart in the Twilight Zone.
Multi Platinum Recording Artist, Producer, Songwriter, and Entertainment Executive, Jean Beauvoir, says “One of the most mysterious features of our existence is consciousness. What is the relationship between science, creativity and human emotions? How does this interplay affect what we experience?”
“Rock your mind! Understand human consciousness, and how it applies to our lives and the real world.” Beauvoir is originally from the legendary Plasmatics, his credits include The Ramones, KISS, Debbie Harry, Crown of Thorns, The Pretenders, and titles and theme songs for films, including School of Rock.
Ticket proceeds and contributions fund provocative science programs like "The Feeling Brain," an upcoming PBS series which gathers diverse scientists and experts in various fields to explore and translate the emotion sciences, plus high level consciousness science curriculum for university networks, among other projects produced by Shift. The Feeling Brain is developed in association with the Society for Mind Brain Sciences.
Natalie Geld, CEO of Shift Communication and co-founder of the Society for Mind Brain Sciences is producing The Feeling Brain series with Dr. Bernard Baars, and top emotions scientists, medical experts, clinicians, and creative professionals.
"Media profoundly shapes consciousness, thinking and beliefs of billions of people." How can we use the mind brain sciences to expand our potential?" asks Geld. "Connecting frontier science to important communities is a start. We're a conscious media company shifting communication in science, sentience, and sexuality."
Dr. Bernard Baars is co-founder and CEO of the Society for Mind Brain Sciences (MBSci), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation integrating brain science + human experience. MBSci is an interdisciplinary and worldwide collaborative organization, whose advisory boards and committees are comprised of leading names in consciousness science, media and the arts. K & L Gates, LLP represents MBSci, and is among the top 25 law firm brands in the United States.
