Sheraton Sand Key Resort Hires Beach Tennis Pro to Enhance Guest Experience

April 10, 2014

CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla., April 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Sheraton Sand Key Resort, located in Clearwater Beach, Florida, has brought beach tennis Pro, Steven Cutler (Coach Rhino) as the Pool and Beach Activities Director to coordinate activities and provide resort guests with beach tennis lessons.

Coach Rhino is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) certified Tennis Professional that was introduced to the sport of beach tennis in 2005. At the age of 57, Coach Rhino has achieved a world ranking of #44 in singles and #101 in doubles and continues to compete worldwide.

“What attracted me most to beach tennis is that it is a lot of fun. In some ways it is the opposite of regular tennis. During tournaments, we have a party on the beach with island music playing and crowds cheering,” said Coach Rhino.

Beach tennis merges the sports of tennis and beach volleyball into one action packed sport that originated on the beaches of Ravenna, Italy over 30 years ago. Unlike beach volleyball the ball must travel over the net each time it is struck by the players. It is played with high tech carbon fiber paddles and a depressurized tennis ball on a regulation beach volleyball court with a net that is 5’7″ high.

Coach Rhino will also assist in coordinating the International Beach Tennis Tournament being held at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort on May 29-31, 2014. The tournament will be a major event for the Clearwater Beach area and will host some of the best beach tennis professionals across the globe.

Along with beach tennis, Coach Rhino will be providing an array of activities for guests of all ages. He will be coordinating programs such as beach tennis clinics, sand volleyball games, corn hole as well as lacrosse and soccer camps.

General Manager, Russ Kimball commented, “We are always looking for new ways to enhance our guests experience and over the past few weeks we have been receiving positive feedback on our beach and pool activities.”

The Sheraton Sand Key Resort has served the Clearwater Beach area as one of the leading hotels in the state. The Sheraton is Tampa Bay’s premier meeting and vacation destination, with 10 acres of exclusive beach, a prizewinning staff and renowned hospitality.
