SDForum Announces Speakers for the 2nd Annual Business of New Media Conference on Dec. 11th
SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ — SDForum, Silicon Valley’s leading source of information and education in the technology community, announced today the second annual one-day Business of New Media Conference on Dec. 11th at the Microsoft Galileo Auditorium in Mountain View, CA. Speakers include Silicon Valley’s preeminent voices, investors and CEOs shaping the technology and content influencing millions around the world.
This year’s keynote by Wall Street Journal editor Kara Swisher will address the new directions the business of new media is heading. Will David, the new media start-up, or Goliath, the media giant, control the content? She will also discuss some of the changes that have happened to citizen journalism in the last year and how this trend ties into the business of media as a whole.
“The way media is developed, distributed and consumed today is creating seismic shifts in the industry,” said Swisher. “We need to seriously begin considering where this new model is headed. Who controls the content, how the end user fits in, what the new business model for new media will look like and the relationship between start-ups and media incumbents will all considerably affect media’s landscape tomorrow. The SDForum New Media event is the venue where these questions will be answered.”
This year, SDForum teamed up with Vator.tv to find the best new media technologies for the event and will feature a special panel discussion, which is being voted on by Vator.tv viewers. Winners will present to an audience of investors, other startups, major technology enterprises and potential partners, as well as the press and other executives in media and technology.
The event will consist of Ms. Swisher’s keynote and four panel discussions: Where’s the Money and What does it take to get Funded?: Success Stories from the Venture Community; Dancing with the Elephants: How to Win Without Getting Crushed; In the Trenches: What Picks and Shovels are Driving New Media Today?; and Where’s the Business in the Model?. Each panel is comprised of experts who will address a specific aspect of where the digital frontier ends, what business models are emerging and how technology is transforming the foundations of media as we know them.
“New technologies are quickly changing the face of digital media as we know it,” said Susan Lucas-Conwell, CEO of SDForum. “We expect this year’s event to be an ideal forum to explore new media and to discuss what the future holds in this increasingly complex and competitive digital world.”
“The Business of New Media Conference offers a great opportunity for new media leaders and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, share innovations and network with Silicon Valley area venture capitalists,” said Jim Lussier, general partner for Norwest Venture Partners. ” In addition, the conference is a great platform for exploring new trends and discussing the groundbreaking technologies that are pushing the limits of new media as we know it today. NVP is thrilled to be a part of this event once again.”
