ASHGABAT. Jan 12 (Interfax) – Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow has criticized his country’s media for what he called its lack of creativity.

“Creative initiative is still lacking in the work of domestic media outlets, while they should play an important role in shaping public mentality, educating the Turkmenistanis spiritually and esthetically, and explaining the priorities of the government’s policies,” Berdimuhammedow told an expanded government session on Friday. The session was broadcast on Turkmen television.

Berdimuhammedow said that since the performance of the local media requires “a most serious and comprehensive improvement,” he planned to meet with the staffs of printed and electronic media outlets to discuss ways to solve the most pressing problems.
