PLANO, Texas, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ — In a major step forward for interactive television, BIAP Inc. announces a complete end-to-end EBIF (Enhanced Binary Interchange Format) solution for the cable television industry. BIAP’s new end-to-end solution includes a suite of market-ready EBIF applications, an integrated development studio and an EBIF platform for cable operators looking to quickly deploy the open cable standard.

    1. BIAP’s proven interactive applications are now available in EBIF. This programming bundle includes Yellow Pages on TV, My Football Tracker, My Baseball Tracker, eBay on TV, PiTV (Personalized Information TV), and the latest addition, Election Central 2008. BIAP’s interactive programming delivers advanced advertising features such as VOD links, ETV banners, targeting of specific messages to individual homes, and accompanying detailed usage and measurement reports. 2. BIAP’s EBIF Studio is an easy-to-use authoring environment that supports the rapid creation of new ETV applications. The BIAP EBIF Studio allows operators, programmers, and third-party developers to respond more effectively to market opportunities and requests. 3. BIAP’s EBIF user agent is available to cable operators that may not have a deployable in-house solution. The user agent is based on BIAP’s high-performance, compact application framework already deployed to millions of set-top boxes. This platform is currently available for Cisco’s (SA) PowerTV set-top box platforms, while support for additional platforms, such as Motorola and OpenTV, will be available soon.

“BIAP is proud to be the first and only company to offer a comprehensive set of solutions to the various entities in the ETV ecosystem,” said Tim Peters, BIAP’s CEO. “Whether you are looking to deploy our Emmy-nominated applications, looking for a way to quickly develop your own ETV applications, or wanting to capitalize on EBIF to standardize your third-party application platform, BIAP has the product for your needs. With this suite of products, BIAP can accelerate the deployment and adoption of ETV and advanced advertising.”

EBIF is a subset of the OCAP standard developed by CableLabs and can therefore run on lower-end boxes with less memory and processing power. It supports Enhanced TV (ETV) applications that focus on augmenting video programming and driving viewer engagement. The EBIF standard can also be used for unbound applications designed to reach all fielded digital boxes given its smaller size.
