Local Heroes Back Together After 25 Years
THE cast and crew of one of Scotland’s best-loved films were reunited in Glasgow for a special silver anniversary screening of Local Hero.
Bill Forsyth’s eccentric comedy about a Texan oil company’s attempt to buy up a fictional fishing village has charmed generations of Scots since it first hit the screen in 1983.
Yesterday’s screening, before a sold-out house at the Glasgow Film Theatre, was part of the Glasgow Film Festival.
Many original cast members from the film, including Denis Lawson, Jenny Black, Roger Murray Leach, Tam Dean Burn and Jonathan Watson turned up for the show.
Lawson, who played Gordon Urquhart, a hotel owner and accountant in the movie, was at the screening with his sister, Carol McGregor, the mother of Ewan McGregor.
Speaking of the enduring appeal of the film, he said: “That is one of the pleasurable things about this film – its shelf life.”
