NEW YORK, and LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Glenn Haygood has been named president and general manager of WLKY-TV, the Hearst- Argyle Television CBS affiliate serving the Louisville, Kentucky, TV market. The appointment, effective March 17, was announced by David J. Barrett, president and chief executive officer of Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc.
Haygood succeeds James J. Carter, who has been named president and general manager of WESH-TV and WKCF-TV, the Hearst-Argyle Television NBC and CW affiliates, respectively, serving the Orlando-Daytona-Melbourne, Florida, TV market.
"We are delighted that Glenn will step into a new leadership role with our company, as President and General Manager of WLKY," Barrett said. "He's a great example of the bench strength and management depth we have in our company. He's delivered consistently strong results in sales management for WXII in recent years, and has been an integral part of our very effective management team in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro market. Glenn has developed an insightful understanding about the hallmark values that drive success in local television -- a strong commitment to local news and community service, an energetic embrace of new digital media opportunities, and disciplined business management. These values are much in evidence at WLKY, and we're confident that Glenn will provide strong leadership and continuity for our talented station team, building on the accomplishments realized under Jim Carter's stewardship."
For the past eight years, Haygood has served as General Sales Manager of WXII-TV, Hearst-Argyle's NBC affiliate serving the Winston-Salem/Greensboro, North Carolina, TV market. While there, the station achieved eight consecutive years of market revenue-share growth, and established WXII12.com as the market's top revenue producing television website. Prior to WXII, Haygood was the General Manager of WGPX-TV in Greensboro, where he managed a television studio and transmitter build-out, and launched a new PAX-affiliated television station. Before that, Haygood served in various television sales and management positions in Winston-Salem/Greensboro and Orlando, Florida.
Haygood is a graduate of the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where he earned a B.A. in Communications/Journalism, and has successfully completed a number of professional development programs including the Hearst Management Institute's Foundations of Leadership, the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) Broadcast Leadership Training and the Northwestern University Media Management Center's Management Development Program. Among other civic service, he has been actively involved with the YMCA Guides program.
