Posted on: Tuesday, 11 March 2008, 15:00 CDT

The BBC reportedly has begun broadcasting on its new Arabic-language TV channel, which is available through the Arabsat, Eutelsat and Nilesat satellite systems.

The channel is free for everyone in North Africa and the Middle East with a satellite or cable connection, KUNA reported Tuesday.

BBC Arabic is renowned for broadcasting impartial and accurate news and information which is strong on analysis and expertise. An enhanced multimedia service meets the needs of an audience with a very strong appetite for news and debate, BBC World Service Director Nigel Chapman said.

KUNA said the channel will initially offer 12 hours of programming a day, including news, debates and interviews and will move to 24-hour programming later this year.
