By IAN GRAHAM
THE first St Patrick’s Day celebration at Stormont’s Parliament Buildings since 2003 was hosted last night by Speaker William Hay.
Over 200 senior citizens, nominated by all the political parties and MLAs enjoyed an evening of song and dance in the Great Hall.
The DUP man said: “I’m very pleased to be able to host this St Patrick’s Day celebration in Parliament Buildings tonight, the first such event since the return of devolution.
“One of my aims as Speaker is to engage with citizens from all areas and communities in Northern Ireland and this event shows how all parties can work together for the good of Northern Ireland.”
He said he was delighted to be working with Age Concern, Help the Aged and the Age Sector Forum, all of whom were represented at the event.
Presenter Gerry Anderson compered the programme of entertainment, which included performances by the Melisma choral choir, Piping Hot pipes and drums, Celtic Storm dance troupe and singer Rois Kelly.
