Jericho has been canceled by CBS yet again after the series was unable to capitalize on a second chance from the U.S. TV network.

While fan support helped motivate CBS officials to put the post-nuclear attack drama back on the air, its ratings did not improve enough for network officials and now it will offer its series finale next week, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

While CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler has acknowledged the series’ loyal fan base, she said Jericho never drew in enough viewers.

Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program, Tassler said. We simply wish there were more of them.

The series’ second season premiere drew in 7.2 million viewers but those numbers promptly began dropping. An estimated 5.8 million people watched last week’s episode, the Times said.

A source at CBS said the special series finale filmed in case of the series’ cancellation should provide closure for loyal fans.
