Wowza Media Server(TM) Pro Earns Streaming Media Magazine's Editors' Pick for Second Year in a Row

Posted on: Thursday, 27 March 2008, 09:00 CDT

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Wowza Media Systems, emerging leader in streaming media server software, announced today that its Wowza Media Server(TM) Pro had earned Streaming Media Magazine's prestigious Editors' Pick for the second straight year. The Editors' Pick, a list of the 10 most significant products and services of the past year, places Wowza Pro in the ranks of the Apple iPhone, the Adobe Media Player, the Microsoft Expression Encoder, and other notable honorees.

"We'd normally be hesitant to bestow the Editors' Picks honor on the same product 2 years in a row," said Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen, Editor, Streaming Media Magazine. He explained that they practically had no choice, given the kind of year Wowza had. "Wowza Media Server Pro flat-out exploded in 2007, going from beta to launch to almost 4,000 licensees in 12 months."

He added, "Price is still its biggest draw over both configurations of Adobe Flash Media Server, but more and more Wowza users are saying that while the price got them to take it look, the performance is what got them to sign up."

Upon hearing of the award, David Stubenvoll, CEO & Co-Founder, Wowza Media Systems, was both proud and pleasantly surprised. "It is always a thrill to be honored for one's accomplishments, particularly from the likes of Streaming Media Magazine," he said. "Having earned the same honor out-of-the-gate in 2007 set the tone for a fantastic year for us. With this new acknowledgement by the Streaming Media team, we have a feeling that 2008 is going to be even better."

The Editors' Pick recognition comes on the heels of yet another Wowza Media Server Pro innovation -- the industry's first capability to bring live H.264/HE-AAC streaming to Adobe(R) Flash players utilizing plethora of readily available RTP/RTSP H.264 encoders.
