Film Festival to Screen Latest Bollywood Films

Apr. 1–KUWAIT — The Indian Embassy announced yesterday their first ever Film Festival in Kuwait. The festival will showcase three latest and highly successful Bollywood’s Hindi films entitled Chak De India (Chuck the Ball in the Goal), an inspirational film, Veer Zaara (A Love Legend) and Black (A Deaf and Blind) story. The film festival will take place from tomorrow until April 5, under the auspices of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, Minster of Information. The films will be shown with Arabic subtitles but entry will be restricted only through invitation.

India wants to further develop and consolidate the already existing cultural ties “Our political and economic ties are historically strong and dynamic, we know our people very well, but in terms of cultural cooperation we need to work further to develop and improve — and be an impetus for change and development,” said M. Ganapathi, Indian Ambassador during a press conference held at the embassy.

According to Ganapathi, when His Highness the Amir visited India in June of 2006, India and Kuwait signed a cultural exchange program for the year 2006-2008. The elements of the agreements include exchanges in TV and radio programs, including films and movies. “In this context we decided to come up with the activities like film festival to increase the people to people contacts through films. We believed that through this, we could further strengthen our cultural ties in addition to already strong relation s in terms of political and trade relations,” he noted.

Inaugural event will take place at the Shaab Cinema from 7 pm to be graced by five actresses from India, actors for the film Chak De India namely Vidya Malavade, Shilpa Shukla, Chitrashi Rawat, Arya Menon and Shubhi Mehta. During the press conference, the ambassador extended his thanks and appreciation for the people who have been working hard to make this festival possible. He mentioned the relentless cooperation of Kuwait Cinema Company, Kuwait Indo Trading Company Limited (KITCO), Crowne Plaza Hotel and Jazeera Airways.
