GYPSUMVILLE, Man. - A Manitoba man lost in the wilderness for five days without food or water says tips he learned from a television show helped him survive.
Chris Traverse, 24, got separated from his fellow snowmobilers last Friday and, after heading in the wrong direction, his machine ran out of gas.
Traverse says he saw a telephone tower off in the distance and spent three days walking toward it from dusk to dawn, eating snow to stay hydrated.
He made shelters at night out of tree branches - something he learned from the television show Survivorman.
Eventually, he got to a highway and was picked up by a Greyhound bus going to his hometown of Gypsumville, 250 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
His mother, Loretta Traverse, says it's a miracle her son survived, and she doesn't want to let him out of her sight.
