REDLANDS – Redlands Theatre Festival has announced its 36th season.

Five plays will be presented in repertory from July 11 through Aug. 23 in the outdoor theater in Prospect Park.

Back by popular demand, “Beehive – the ’60s Musical” is best described as “the rhythm of a decade, as heard through the female voices of the day.” It’s a high-voltage, fast-paced and nostalgic look back at all the great “girl groups” and female artists of the decade.

“Big River” by Roger Miller is a musical romp down the Mississippi River, following the misadventures of Huckleberry Finn. A heartwarming, family-friendly American classic brought to life.

“The Good Doctor” is Neil Simon’s hilarious take on a series of newspaper articles written by Anton Chekhov in the late 1800s. Broadway’s master of comedy weaves together eight of these classic vignettes. What ensues is a laugh-out-loud masterpiece as only Neil Simon could create.

Based on the best-selling autobiographical novel by Mitch Albom, “Tuesdays With Morrie” is a powerful, deeply emotional story. With doses of humor and insight, an aging professor coaches his former student on matters of life, death and the nature of love.

Along with a fifth show, which will be announced at a later date, the festival will include a one-night concert, “Show-offs,” featuring special guests and company members.

Auditions for the company will be held at the Redlands East Valley High School’s Blackstone Theatre at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, and at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19.

Those auditioning should prepare a short monologue and song from a well-known musical.

The Redlands Theatre Festival is a non-profit repertory theater. The organization offers college credits, internships and community service opportunities. Those who are interested are encouraged to check out the Web site at www.rtfseason.org for more information and audition requirements.
