Private Afghan TV Stops Indian Serial As Deadline Banning Soap Operas Ends

The private Nurin television channel has stopped the airing of the [Indian] soap opera Dar Entezar [Waiting].

A letter sent to the Information and Culture Ministry by the Nurin private television, reads: “Nurin television will put into practice the decision by the nationwide council of Afghan scholars and the decision by the Information and Culture Ministry on the ban of the TV serial Dar Entezar as of 26 Hamal of 1387 [14 Apr 08].

The letter stresses that the decision should be equally applied on all television channels.

The last joint meeting of members of the nationwide council of scholars, MPs and officials of private television channels held at the Information and Culture Ministry agreed to stop broadcasting of some serials.
