“Shrek the Musical” hasn’t even opened on Broadway, and already its lyricist, David Lindsay-Abaire, is an award winner for the show. Lindsay-Abaire has won the $100,000 2008 Kleban Award for most promising musical theater lyricist for his work on the stage adaptation of the DreamWorks film and the book by William Steig. The production opens Dec. 14 at the Broadway Theatre after a tryout engagement in August and September in Seattle. Preview performances begin Nov. 8 in New York.
