Steven Spielberg is to return to France's Cannes Film Festival after a 26-year absence for the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
We created Indiana Jones but it belongs to the world and now we're the custodians, Spielberg said in a statement. "Our job really is to serve up a huge helping not only of what
Indiana Jones means to audiences who grew up with it but to introduce the character to those who haven't. This new film is for the fans."
This is the first time Spielberg has returned to the festival since 1982 when he premiered E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Paramount Pictures said.
The fourth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise is to premiere at Cannes May 18. It will open worldwide May 22.
