Film-Maker is Tipped for Cannes Glory
THE latest film by award-winning French animator Sylvain Chomet at his studios in Edinburgh is being tipped for next year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The Illusionist, bring made by a team of more than 70 animators in the Capital, is based on an original script by legendary French film maker Jacques Tati, best known for the off-beat comedy Mr Hulot’s Holiday.
The GBP 11 million movie tells the story of an old-fashioned stage entertainer struggling not to disappoint a girl who believes his magic tricks are real.
Mr Chomet is currently attending this year’s Cannes Film Festival with a showreel of the film.
The project is being shown to potential buyers by production company Pathe who helped finance it along with TV channels France 3 and Canal Plus.
Mr Chomet set up his Edinburgh studio in 2004 after the success of his film Belleville Rendezvous.
