IT’S A COMELY young maiden’s dream – the chance to dally with King Henry VIII, otherwise known as Cork actor Jonathan Rhys- Meyers.

The producers of the hit TV drama The Tudors are looking for extras, and are holding a two-day open casting to find background actors for the show.

But they aren’t just looking for feisty wenches.

Spectacular crowd scenes in the show call for people of all ages, size and appearance.

"There’s no need to bring your own bodice," said Ciara Lyons of The Tudors casting office. "That would put our costumes department out of a job!

"We’re looking for people of all ages, genders, sizes and shapes and no acting experience is required."

The lucky ones to be cast as extras will get to appear in the third season of the series, being filmed in Ardmore, Co Wicklow, this summer.

"They’ll appear in Henry’s court, and at celebration scenes or jousting festivals," Ciara added. "Wherever there’s a crowd. But be warned – filming isn’t usually as glamorous as the final product appears on screen. But it is still a great experience."

The casting will be held at Liberty Hall, Dublin, on May 28 and 29, from 11am to 8pm each day.
