The Chicago production of the Wizard of Oz-themed stage musical Wicked reportedly will close in January after 1,500 performances.
The show, starring Erin Mackey as Glinda and Dee Roscioli as Elphaba, is to end its run at the Oriental Theatre Jan. 25, 2009, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.
By then, an estimated 3 million people will have seen the musical in Chicago during its 3 1/2-year run, the newspaper said.
We did something in Chicago that no show has ever done before, producer David Stone told the Tribune. This show has changed the way New York producers view Chicago. It is now a city not just for tours but for extended runs.
