The Mann Center, Please Touch Museum, The Zoo and Microsoft(R) Will Support First Annual West Park Arts Festival May 31

PHILADELPHIA, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- West Park Cultural and Opportunity Center and the High School of the Future will present the first annual West Park Arts Festival, Saturday, May 31 at the School of the Future, 4021 Parkside Avenue. The Festival on Saturday runs from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. The kickoff will take place on Friday night May 30th with Chosen Dance Company presenting the world premiere of "Hip Hop with a Conscience" at 7 p.m. on stage at the School of the Future.
Saturday the Festival will include five performance/activity areas, inside and outdoors, featuring a wide range of performances and activities for all ages including the Please Touch Museum activities; Mann Center for the Performing Arts sponsored performances featuring such groups as the Clef Club Youth Jazz Band, Universal African Dance & Drum Ensemble, Coyle School of Irish Dance, the UCC Royal New Orleans Youth Brass Band, and Zen One Dance Collective. The Philadelphia Zoo will bring their zoo on wheels and artifacts for children to enjoy.
Students from the School of the Future and other area schools will perform and exhibit their work. The work of visual and craft artists will be for sale and attendees can join in a number of hands-on activities. There will be martial arts demonstrations, hip hop dance performances, storytelling for children and Scribe Video short films from their "Community Visions" program, will play throughout the day. The festival will end Saturday evening with a second performance of "Hip Hop with a Conscience" at 7:00 p.m.
