Popular U.S. rappers Kanye West, Common, Redman and Method Man all illegally sampled music made by Joe Farrell, the musician's daughter alleges in a lawsuit.
Kathleen Firantello alleged in her lawsuit against the four rappers and their Universal Music Group record company that each of them violated copyright regulations by sampling from Farrell's 1974 song Upon This Rock, E! Online reported Friday.
West has been accused of using a sample from Rock in his song Gone, while Common allegedly used a portion of the jazz hit in his 2005 track Chi-City.
Redman and Method Man have both been accused of using a portion of Rock without permission for the song Run 4 Cover, a track the rappers created together in 1999.
E! Online said the daughter of the late jazz star wants the targeted songs to no longer be distributed and has asked for at least $1 million in punitive damages from the co-defendants.
