By Ed Marcum, The Knoxville News-Sentinel, Tenn.
May 30–The Knox Heritage Inc. preservationist group is honoring downtown developer and preservationist Kristopher Kendrick with a film on his life and will hold a showing Friday, June 6.
“Conceptions, Visions, Dreams: The Kristopher Kendrick Story,” a 30-minute film, will be screened continuously from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 6 at the Bijou Theatre.
The public is invited and there is no admission charge.
The film features interviews with Kendrick and some of his family, friends and associates and deals with his efforts to preserve historic properties. From his career as a successful hairdresser in the 1950′s and 1960′s, Kendrick branched out in the 1970′s and 1980′s, opening the Orangery, Knoxville’s only 4-star restaurant, and restoring such widely known buildings as Patrick Sullivan’s Saloon, The Lord Lindsey, the Dulin home and others.
After the screening, a copy of the film will be archived at the McClung Historical Collection at the East Tennessee History Center. The screening event is part of downtown’s “First Friday” activities.
