BOK Announces Dates for Comedian, Christian Group
By Brian Barber, Tulsa World, Okla.
May 31–Comedian and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham and Christian soft rock group Casting Crowns are headed to Tulsa’s BOK Center.
The shows announced Friday by Mayor Kathy Taylor are the arena’s first comedy act and first contemporary Christian concert.
“They are an indication of the wide variety of entertainment that will be offered at the BOK Center,” she said. “There will be something for everyone.”
Dunham will bring his “Spark of Insanity” tour to the new venue at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.
His hourlong Comedy Central special of the same name is still the highest rated in the network’s history.
Tickets for Dunham’s performance will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, and will be $40 and $45. It will be in a half-house setup with about 6,500 seats available.
Dunham, of course, never travels alone. Fans have come to know his fast-talking “Suitcase Posse” of dummies.
Most recognizable to TV viewers is “Walter” the elderly, outspoken and politically incorrect curmudgeon who spouts his views on the foibles of marriage, politics and anything else that needs skewering in American culture.
Also popular is Dunham’s character “Achmed the Dead Terrorist.”
The
Casting Crowns Christmas Celebration Show will come to the arena Sunday, Nov. 30.
Tickets for the popular Christian group’s performance will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19. Prices and the show’s seating configuration are still being determined.
Casting Crowns, whose seven members started out as a student worship group in Daytona Beach, Fla., is the most-played group on Christian radio stations and has won both Grammy and Dove awards.
The group has released eight singles so far, seven of which, including “Lifesong,”"East to West” and “Voice of Truth,” have become No. 1 hits on the Christian music charts.
Tickets are available online at www.tulsaworld.com/bokcentertix, by phone at 1-877-TULSA-CC or in person at the Tulsa Convention Center box office and area Homeland grocery stores.
