Bryn’s the Boy for a Bodice-Ripper!

THE man renowned for “sexing up” the classics wants to get his hands on a more contemporary character – Uncle Bryn from the Bafta Award-winning comedy Gavin And Stacey.

Like the rest of the country, Andrew Davies, who is behind such TV bodice-rippers as Pride and Prejudice and Tipping The Velvet, is a fan of the sitcom created by Welsh actress Ruth Jones and actor James Corden.

But while Davies would love to have a go at penning an episode of the series about a Welsh lass who marries an Essex boy, he doesn’t think he would be the best man for the job.

“I don’t think I would be able to write it well enough,” says Cardiff-born Davies. But he reckons there’s one character he might be able to write for – confirmed bachelor Uncle Bryn, played by Welsh actor and comedian Rob Brydon.

“I think I have the hang of his humour – I’ve known one or two uncles like that.”
