Cablevision's iO TV(SM) Goes 'Green' With Addition of Planet Green From Discovery

BETHPAGE, N.Y., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cablevision Systems Corp. today announced that at 6 PM ET, Discovery Home will become Planet Green, the first 24-hour eco-lifestyle television network. In addition to the 24-hour network located on channel 172 across Cablevision's service area, Planet Green will also feature accompanying free video on demand programming available to all customers subscribing to the iO TV digital cable package. Dedicated to exploring what it means to be green, Planet Green features an authoritative and diverse group of celebrities and personalities who share their passion for the planet through a host of entertaining series and specials such as Emeril Green, Alter Eco, G Word, Wa$ted, Renovation Nation and more.

In addition to the digital cable channel, Planet Green On Demand is accessible at no additional charge to digital cable customers with a set-top box through the Free On Demand menu on the iO TV user interface. Free On Demand content will include a robust selection of programs from the network along with video shorts introducing Planet Green's mission, on-air talent and shows. All of Cablevision's On Demand titles are presented in crystal clear quality with DVD-like functionality including the ability to pause, fast- forward and rewind programs through the remote control.

With nearly 2.7 million iO TV customers, more than 85 percent of Cablevision's cable customers are iO TV digital cable customers, the highest digital penetration in the nation. iO TV offers customers access to up to 360 channels, including 53 premium movie channels, 48 channels of commercial-free digital music, more than 3,500 titles available on demand at all times, an interactive programming guide, 45 high-definition programming services and uniquely valuable interactive television applications including News 12 Interactive.

Is cable TV the one of the biggest waster of electricity? Millions of customers, using millions of set top boxes plugged in and drawing power 24/7. Let alone running while the TV is on. Elimimnate set top boxes or provide them with a manual on/off switch.
