A Japanese zoo worker who died shortly after being found by a patron was likely attacked by an Amur tiger, investigators say.
Officials believe Atsushi Ito, 40, was cleaning the tiger's cage at Kyoto City Zoo Saturday before a patron found him collapsed on the ground, Mainichi Shimbun reported.
By the time coworkers came to the victim's aid, his major organs had already stopped working, officials say.
It is reported he had numerous wounds to his neck and head and was pronounced dead later at a medical center.
Authorities think Victor, an 11-year-old male Amur tiger, mauled the worker.
