Doolittle Film Role for Keira
By JAMES HARPER
KEIRA Knightley is in talks to play cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle in a remake of movie classic My Fair Lady.
The film beauty would play the role made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the Oscar-winning 1964 original.
Producer Duncan Kenworthy worked with Knightley on romantic comedy Love, Actually.
Although the film is being called an “update”, it will use the original score and retain its 1912 setting.
The Columbia Pictures movie is to be shot on location in the original London settings, including Covent Garden and Drury Lane, as well as Ascot racecourse.
The film tells the story of snobbish Professor Henry Higgins’ attempts to win a bet by turning working-class Eliza into a high society lady.
Columbia co-president Doug Belgrad said: “This update will preserve the magic of the musical.”
