Real Ideas Studio announced today the results of its Cannes Student Filmmaking Program. Forty-five students in culturally diverse teams created documentaries from their experience at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
"By bringing students and professionals together at Cannes, participants learned a great deal about film, and importantly, about themselves and the larger world around them," said Jim Kenney, program Director.
Student, Mark Sloss, noted, "At times, our work studio was like the press office in a war zone. Everyone thrived on it. The tight deadlines and relationships gave me the confidence to take on anything the industry can throw at me."
The final documentaries were screened May 23rd in the Louis Bory Theater in the festival's main Palais. At the awards ceremony, individuals and teams were honored: Emerging Editor, Mikaela Shwer of SAE Institute, Byron Bay, Australia; for Emerging Cinematographer, Mathias Becker of University of Applied Sciences, Berlin, Germany; for Emerging Publicist, Jessica Ellacott of Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada; for Emerging Motion Graphics Designer, Heidi Berg of the California College of the Arts, San Francisco, USA; and for Emerging Director, Mark Sloss of International Film School of Wales, Newport, UK.
