Music lovers will hit a high note when the annual classical concert is held at Cleethorpes’ new Meridian Lakeside Arena.

The popular open-air performance will be held on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The event will this year herald a week of special events as part of the fifth Arts Forum Festival.

North East Lincolnshire Arts Forum has secured pounds30,000 funding from the Arts Council to stage the festival in 2008, which will not only include the classical concert, but also comedy, performing arts, exhibitions, lunchtime music recitals and live theatre.

Lee Beckett, the chairman of the forum, said: "It is fantastic news to have secured external funding for the festival.

"We are hoping that people will come along and see the great local talent we have here in the North East Lincolnshire area."

The forum has also been awarded charitable status, allowing it to apply for arts funding previously unavailable.

Festival organiser Lyndsey Jackson said: "We are delighted to be offering such a varied calendar of exciting events in 2008.

"With comedy and art exhibitions on top of the list and the return of the popular Battle Of The Bands contest to name a few, we are sure you will find something of interest to suit all ages."

The festival has been welcomed by North East Lincolnshire Council, which will be working in partnership with the forum to bring the classical concert to fruition.

Confirming the venue for the classical concert, the council’s head of tourism, Chris Jones, said the classical show line-up and further details had yet to be announced.
