On the weekend of August 22-24, the Feel Good Film Festival will be taking over the historic Egyptian theatre and spreading feel- good vibes through film and music on Hollywood Boulevard. With Rainn Wilson (The Rocker, Juno, Dwight from NBC’s The Office) setting the vibe as the fest’s Opening Night host, this first annual event will commence in style screening short and feature length films with happy endings, that make audiences laugh, or that “capture the beauty of our world.”
Why “feel good” you may ask. In the ever-expanding world of film festivals, the theme of “feeling good” is basically non-existent. The festival circuit caters toward what it calls “art films” and what audiences can define as “the more dark and depressing the film, the better.” Indie filmmakers have seen this trend and choose to produce depressing stories because they want their project screened at a festival. It’s no wonder at this year’s Oscar ceremony John Stewart is quoted saying, “Hollywood needs a hug!”
The Feel Good Film Festival is the only one of its kind on the continent. Films screened are not religious or 100% G-rated but the festival promises that after each screening, audience members will leave feeling BETTER than when they first sat in the comfy theatre chair.
