Pakistan: Taleban Limit TV Broadcast to News, Religious Channels in Tribal Area

Text of report by Rawalpindi correspondent headlined “Kohat: Taleban Allow the Broadcast of 13 Television Channels” published by Pakistani newspaper Jang on 26 June

Kohat: The Taleban have permitted cable operators in Kohat to run religious and news-related programmes. Hence, in the first phase, people will have access to 13 television channels.

According to details, the Taleban had threatened cable operators in Kohat to stop broadcasting all nudity-based channels. The operators were threatened of serious consequences. However, the cable operators immediately abided by the Taleban saying and stopped broadcasting these channels. However, when the cable operators were contacted, they said that the Taleban had allowed them to broadcast news and religious channels.
