Posted on: Wednesday, 2 July 2008, 12:00 CDT

Peter Sarsgaard and Kristin Scott Thomas have signed on to star in a new version of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull in New York, the play's representatives said.

The new version of the drama, adapted by Christopher Hampton and to be directed by Ian Rickson, is scheduled to begin previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre Sept. 16, with an opening night planned for Oct. 1.

Thomas will reprise on Broadway her Olivier Award-winning role of Arkadina in the critically acclaimed Royal Court Theatre production, while Sarsgaard will join the cast as the character of Trigorin.

Marking the Broadway debuts of both Thomas and Sarsgaard, the show's limited engagement is to end Dec. 21.

Thomas is best known for her roles in the films The English Patient, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Gosford Park.

Sarsgaard has starred in the movies Kinsey, Shattered Glass, Garden State and Boys Don't Cry.
