Zombie Flick ‘Can’t Be Stopped’

July 4, 2008

By S. Derrickson Moore, Las Cruces Sun-News, N.M.

Jul. 4–LAS CRUCES — If you spot monsters in a neighborhood near you, don’t be alarmed. The gory guys are probably actors in “They Can’t Be Stopped,” another movie being filmed here this summer.

Producer and assistant director Lisa Clark describes the Bears Ride Bicycles production as “an action/horror grindhouse movie.”

Director Jaron Whitfill reports the two-hour film will feature local cast and crew members, including students from New Mexico State University.

“Our goal is to enter the film into the festivals, like Sundance, and see where it goes from here,” Whitfill said.

“We plan to finish it by October and have world premieres around Halloween. We’ve already found a theater in Albuquerque and we’re looking for a place to premiere it in Las Cruces,” executive producer Matt Freeman said.

The project was born when Freeman and Whitfill met on the set of “The Burning Plain” during location filming in Las Cruces.

The film stars several actors from Las Cruces and El Paso and producers are still seeking “background” actors for upcoming scenes.
