Tickets will go on sale Monday at the Prairie Band Casino & Resort for concerts there by Grammy Award winners in their respective genres: Chubby Checker and Merle Haggard.
Both of the shows - Checker on July 19 and Haggard on Aug. 1 - initially were planned as invitation-only performances in the Great Lakes Ballroom at the casino, which is located about 15 miles north of Topeka on US-75 highway.
However, the Potawatomi Prairie Band-run casino decided to put a limited number of tickets to each show on sale.
Tickets will be sold for $25 each in the casino gift shop for the 7 p.m. July 19 concert by Checker, who the All Music Guide described as "the unrivaled king of the rock 'n roll dance craze," which included the Pony, the Fly, the Hucklebuck and, of course, the most enduring one, the Twist.
Checker, 66, earned a Grammy in 1961 for "Let's Twist Again," one of his seven Top 10 songs, which also include: "The Fly" (1961), "Limbo Rock" (1962), "Pony Time" (1961), "Popeye (The Hitchhiker)" (1962), "Slow Twistin'" (1962) and "The Twist," which topped Billboard's Pop Singles chart in both 1960 and 1962.
Checker's recording of "The Twist" is one of only two songs to re- enter Billboard's Hot 100 and return to the No. 1 position. The other is Bing Crosby's recording of "White Christmas."
Tickets will be $60 for the 7 p.m. Aug. 1 show by the 71-year- old Haggard, who has been a force in country music since the 1960s.
The performer and songwriter has recorded a remarkable 40 No. 1 country singles and almost that many more in the Top 10.
The Country Music Hall of Famer earned Grammys in 1984 for "That's the Way Love Goes" and in 1998 for the CD "Same Old Train," which he recorded with Clint Black, Joe Diffie, Emmylou Harris and Dwight Yoakam. In 2006, the Grammys presented Haggard with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Haggard tickets can be purchased at the casino or at www.ticketweb.com.
