Jul. 6–Worried that you might be lost if you go to the big-screen movie X-Files: I Want to Believe?

A DVD, out Tuesday, could prepare you for the film, which opens July 25. The X-Files: Revelations gathers eight pivotal episodes from this Fox drama that ran nine seasons. Series creator Chris Carter picked the installments and introduces each along with executive producer Frank Spotnitz.

The 1993 pilot plops FBI agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) in the confounding orbit of fellow agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny).

The DVD offers several series peaks. “The Host” presents the Flukeman, a murderous mutation in the New Jersey sewer system. “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose” brought Peter Boyle an Emmy — something he never achieved on Everybody Loves Raymond.

In “Memento Mori,” friends scurry to save an ill Scully. “Post-Modern Prometheus” explores a genetic experiment with horrendous consequences.

The DVD also contains a theatrical trailer and a conversation with the stars at a fan convention. The X-Files: Revelations, the best of a classic series, reminds us how thrilling it is to have Mulder and Scully back.
