Dozens Trapped in Stalled Gondola
A gondola ride stalled high above the Bronx Zoo’s African Safari exhibit Wednesday night, stranding three dozen passengers for hours, authorities said.
The Skyfari ride shut itself down about 5:30 p.m. when a wheel on one of the 14 aerial cars slipped off its overhead cable while about 100 feet off the ground, The New York Times reported. That disabled car held three zoo visitors, while the rest of the stranded riders were in other gondolas, the Times said.
Four hours later, most of the passengers were still awaiting rescue.
Police said no one was injured, though emergency equipment was brought in as a precaution.
