Who Might Be in the Running for the Job?

July 11, 2008

PETE WATERMAN

COVENTRY KID who has made his fortune in the pop world. Knows his way around the Midlands, having worked on the railways at Walsall. TV commitments and the fact he lives nearer Manchester than Brum could count against him.

LENNY HENRY

DUDLEY’S favourite son would bring a comedy touch to politics, but could make the role a standing joke if he appeared with a Comic Relief red nose on. His missus Dawn French would be a popular choice for Lady Mayoress.

DAVE MOORCROFT

ANOTHER Cov Kid, the former world-record holder over a mile would be quick on his feet. Having headed the body representing athletics in the UK, he is experienced at the lobbying needed to promote the region.

JASPER CARROTT

A BRUMMIE who once claims he lived so close to the airport there were aeroplane tyre marks on his roof. Could he be the man to unite the region, the acceptable face of Brum to Coventrians?
