Jul. 11–HOULTON, Maine — A film by an Aroostook County native and self-taught filmmaker will take center stage in movie theaters throughout the state in the coming weeks when a full-length action-adventure film that he created is screened across the state.

John W. Bosley, a 1998 Presque Isle High School graduate who lives in Coleman, Mich., is screening his film “Amnesia” in theaters in Caribou and Houlton before taking the film on the road.

It’s a full-length action-adventure film that debuted in Caribou on Wednesday evening. The company that Bosley founded, J.B. Movies and Visual Arts, is marketing and distributing the film. It will be screened in Houlton tonight and Saturday night before moving on to theaters in Bar Harbor, Belfast, Bridgton, Biddeford and Brunswick.

The movie tells the story of Allen Carter, a man who wakes up with amnesia. While he doesn’t recognize the world around him, he does know that he is looking for his wife and son.

“We shot 80 percent of the film in Maine,” Bosley said during a telephone interview earlier this week. “Of that, 50 percent was shot in Down East Maine and the Bangor area.” The remainder of the film was shot in Michigan and Colorado.

Two of the film’s stars, Jennifer Dickinson and Andrew Doph, also hail from the Bangor area.

While in high school, Bosley studied under Brenda Jepson, who teaches the video productions class at the Caribou Regional Technology Center. Bosley said Jepson had seen the film and “convinced me that I needed to bring it to Maine.”

Bosley has never been to film school, saying he learns better studying and experimenting with filmmaking techniques on his own. “I have read so many books on filmmaking. I think I’ve read more than most film students.”

He said he feels connected to the entire state, having spent the majority of his childhood in Aroostook County and having both parents grow up in the Portland area.

Bosley said that while he had written a number of screenplays, he chose “Amnesia” for production because he said it felt the closest to a festival film.

It took him more than six years to make the movie, including approximately 18 months in post-production work.

Bosley’s “Amnesia” will be shown in the following locations:

— Temple Theatre, Houlton, July 11 and 12.

— Criterion Theatre, Bar Harbor, July 21.

— Colonial Theatre, Belfast, July 22 and 23.

— Magic Lantern, Bridgton, July 28.

— Smitty’s Cinema, Biddeford, Aug. 1.

— Eveningstar, Brunswick, Aug. 2.

Copies of the film will be available for purchase after each showing.
