Community Involvement Essential for ACP Awards

Jul. 14–Aiken’s version of the Tony Awards invites you to vote.

Your opinion matters and your vote has influence at the Aiken Community Playhouse 2007-08 season awards. Voting is taking place online and at the ACP.

Vote for your favorite show of the season. The show with the most votes will receive the honor of “Community Choice for Favorite Play,” to be presented on Aug. 14.

Productions in the running for “Community Choice for Favorite Play” include: “Dearly Departed,”"Dear Santa,”"M*A*S*H,”"Sweeney Todd,”"Grease,”"Earth and Sky and Moonlight” and “Magnolias.”

During the annual award show, awards will be presented for outstanding lead actor and actress for comedy, drama, musicals and Black Box productions; outstanding supporting actor and actress for comedy, drama, musicals and Black Box productions; outstanding featured actor and actress in comedy, drama and musicals; outstanding newcomer and more.

Directing awards will be presented for best in comedy, drama, musical and Black Box productions, as well as outstanding music director.

Technical awards will be presented for sound design, lighting design, set design and prop masters in drama, comedy and musicals.

The playhouse will also announce the Youth Wing Scholarship Awards.

The highlight of the evening is the presentation of awards for outstanding show — drama, outstanding show — comedy and outstanding musical.

The entire community is invited to participate in the awards program. This is a chance to show support for the men and women who work hard to entertain audiences all year.

The Aiken Community Playhouse Awards will be at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts on Newberry Street.

The awards ceremony is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served in the lobby.
