Jul. 14–For the “wannabe” comedian, he or she will have the opportunity to tickle funnybones in the audience for not one, but three minutes of fame on stage Thursday evening.

Bruce Baum, comedian of stage, radio, television and movies, will be hosting the first “Open Mic” event at Sharky’s Lounge, Paradise Casinos, starting at 8 p.m., with registration at 7:30 p.m.

“This is a chance for anyone to have their most funny face they can legally have in public,” Baum said. “They can tell jokes, but these cannot have malicious, excessive, pointless swearing or unacceptable behavior. Nudity isn’t permitted either.”

An invitation is extended to the public, and it’s rumored a cadre of comedians will be coming from Phoenix. “I’m sure Yuma has some comics as well. Anyone is welcome, as long as their hair isn’t on fire and they don’t have an evil look in their eyes,” said Baum.

For just entering, each contestant will receive $20 in free slot play and a $10 voucher for a meal at the Seahorse Restaurant. The winner will receive $100 in free slot play.

In a telephone interview, Baum confirmed details from TheOuterNet.com that he “was born, then quickly raised by a pack of wild Denny’s waitresses.”

He played football at UCLA, received a bachelor of arts in political science then went back to UCLA to earn a master of fine arts in film.

He’s been on “America’s Funniest People,”"The Simpsons,”"Hollywood Squares,” and numerous other television shows.

Movies he has been in are “Shakes the Clown,”"Crossing the Bridge,” and “The Adventures of Babyman.”

As for his show following the Open Mic, Baum said, “Babyman is being retired, so you won’t see me dressed in a diaper.”

Special note: there is no charge for Thursday’s show at Sharky’s but you must be 21 to attend.
