New Band Kah Pow! Gets the Star Treatment

THEY had the sounds, all they needed was the look

When the ECHO launched its search to find the Liverpool band most in need of a makeover, we were inundated with entries.

But one stood out above the rest.

Child wall five-piece Kah Pow! are three boys and two girls who looked like they all belonged in different bands.

So we gave them a makeover and a set of promotional pictures tomake them look as good as they knew they could be.

The band was whisked off to Liverpool’s musical hub, Parr Street recording studios, where they were made the stars of a fashion shoot with leading music photographer Mark McNulty.

Liverpool born Mark’s pictures have appeared in the Observer, Vogue, the Sunday Times, The Face and NME and his subject list reads like a who’s who of the Liverpool music scene: The Zutons, The Farm, Space, Echo & The Bunny men, Cast and now Kah Pow!

Bold Street designer boutique Drome restyled the band and gave them pounds 200 to spend in store.

“We all looked like we were doing our own thing before, so they styled us in a more uniform way,” says singer Becky Doyle, 18.

“And they toned us down a bit – previously we’d been a bit over the top, but no wit’s classier. It’s definitely some thing we’ll keep up with.

“We sound a bit like Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Jamiroquai, but I’d love to dress like Gwen Stefani. She always looks fantastic.”

Kah Pow! play at the Cavern on August 18. For details see www.myspace.com/kahpow01.
