Children’s Festival Back at Myrick Park Saturday
By Autumn Grooms, La Crosse Tribune, Wis.
Jul. 17--Children will be able to explore a county fair designed just for them Saturday at a fundraising event for Family Resources.Parent educator Fran Swift said events at the annual Children's Summer Festival will follow the theme and engage kids. "It is a place parents can bring children, and they can have fun that is really relevant to what they enjoy," Swift said. "Kids are really happy at the festival. It is all about them."
Included this year will be a petting zoo, hay ride, dunk tank, cake walk, hay bales to climb and a corncob toss.
A fiddler also will be on site to set the mood, and Mama Tess, Tiny Tim and Boogie Randy will take the stage at 11:30 a.m. for a "family sing-a-long, hokey-pokey, chicken dance experience."
The festival helps to offset the costs of programs such as parent education and play groups offered for free to all families by Family Resources.
Buttons are required for the event and can be purchased in advance at Family Resources, 1500 Green Bay St. Quantities are limited, and Swift said they often sell out. Scholarships are available.
