Lil’ Kim Added to Foxy Jam

Jul. 19–Hip-hop queen bee and bad girl Lil’ Kim has joined the already bursting-at-the-seams lineup of performers for the annual Foxy 99 Summer Jam concert.
The concert is July 26 at the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds and starts at 5 p.m.
The lengthy roster of performers features a who’s who of established and up-and-coming rap and R&B acts, including Plies, Pleasure P, Dem Franchize Boyz, Young Berg, Shawty Lo, Mario, Lloyd, Lil Will, Hot Stylz, DJ Khaled, Ace Hood, Maino and Dear Jayne.
“Things just keep getting hotter,” said Mike Tech, program director for WZFX Foxy 99. “This is definitely going to be our biggest Summer Jam yet.”
Lil’ Kim’s addition to the lineup brings a lot of name recognition, Tech said. Kim is not only a Grammy and American Music Award winner but a multi-platinum-selling performer.
“She’s a huge talent and an innovator,” Tech said. “And she’s a bit controversial.”
Kim was found guilty of conspiracy and perjury March 17, 2005, when she was found guilty of lying to a grand jury about the involvement of her friends in a 2001 shooting outside the Hot 97 studios in Manhattan.
While serving her sentence at the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center, Kim released “The Naked Truth,” her fourth album, on Sept. 27, 2005. Despite high critical praise and debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, the album only sold 400,000 copies.
Kim blamed the poor sales on her incarceration and inability to fully promote the album. She was released on good behavior July 3, 2006, and was welcomed home by hundreds of supporters and a bevy of parties, including one hosted by Vibe magazine.
Last year’s Summer Jam sold out, bringing 12,000 hip-hop fans to the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds.
Tech said demand for tickets this year has been much higher, something he expects will increase with the addition of Lil’ Kim.
