Ashley Was Raring to Go and Meet a Giraffe
Derby schoolboy Ashley Ames treated a giraffe to a lettuce leaf during a visit to his dream day-out venue – Twycross Zoo.
The eight-year-old pupil from Chellaston Junior School was invited to the zoo after being declared runner-up in a drawing competition held by Raring2Go magazine.
In the Raring2Go Favourite Day Out awards, primary school children were asked to cast their votes by drawing a picture of their chosen place, with a prize for the best entry.
Ashley drew a picture of himself feeding a giraffe at the zoo – an image he was able to act out for real on his visit.
Twycross Zoo was voted winning attraction so Ashley was invited to meet the animals in recognition of his winning nomination.
He also won a family weekend at Centre Parcs, in Sherwood Forest.
The zoo will now appear in a downloadable guide featuring the top 50 attractions.
