Hot Cotton Bringing Its Music Back to Twisted Sisters Club

Jacksonville drummer and vocalist Ken Kirby admits he is not a dancer, even though his classic rock cover band, Hot Cotton, plays a mix of music that makes people want to get up and dance.

"We're a fun dance band, even for those who don't like to dance," Kirby said. "We're a high-energy band but we're not over the top."

Hot Cotton will be performing classic rock covers and dance tunes on Friday at Twisted Sisters Restaurant and Lounge in Jacksonville Beach.

In addition to Kirby on lead vocals and drums, Hot Cotton is Ted Wattron on guitars and backup vocals, Chris Lombardo on guitars and backup vocals and Kevin Regan on bass guitar and backup vocals.

Kirby and Wattron formed Hot Cotton about four years ago. The Jacksonville cover band plays classic rock along with funk and R&B tunes. While they play the customary cover tunes like Sweet Home Alabama and Brown Eyed Girl, Hot Cotton's song list includes a few surprises, such as Dream On by Aerosmith, Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi, Home by Daughtry and Highway Star by Deep Purple.

"We play all the standards that people expect and like to hear, but we like to throw in stuff that they might not expect," Kirby said.

Twisted Sisters is the only Beaches club the band has played so far. Hot Cotton played there for the first time last month.

"They have good energy, a good attitude and their music is quality," said Twisted Sisters General Manager Frank Casanova, who previously worked at Club Paris in downtown Jacksonville.

Twisted Sisters has added a new sound system, lighting, flooring and plasma televisions along with a new menu since owner Mike Castillo purchased the business a few months ago. While it is not the haven for singer/songwriter artists that it once was, Casanova said they plan to feature a variety of music, including rock and roll, reggae, jazz and blues. Twisted Sisters features live entertainment Tuesday though Saturday.IF YOU GOHot Cotton will perform at Twisted Sisters beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday. There is no cover charge.
