Tunes: Miggs Touring, Writing New Material Constantly
By Angela Simental, Las Cruces Sun-News, N.M.
Jul. 24–The rising cost of gas prices is affecting even California band Miggs, but it is not stopping them from touring and making a stop in Las Cruces for the fourth time.
“Gas prices make it hard to travel,” said Don Miggs (vocals, guitar). “It has an impact on our wallet, but we are traveling smart — we bring less people (in a 15-passenger band) and hit every small town.”
Despite their single “I Believe,” (off their CD, “Unraveled,” released this month) hitting No. 12 on the HOT AC/Top 40 charts Miggs still returns to the “small markets” to deliver a magnificent show.
“We are not reinventing the wheel — we play not just for major markets — we are truly putting the music where we want,” Miggs said.
With popularity on the rise and commitments flooding their agenda, Miggs said there is more pressure from the music industry and from the band itself to create better music and every time, topping their last album.
“There is always pressure,” Miggs said. “But I feel that we have not written our best songs yet.”
The band wants to write and deliver fresh music to fans that can’t wait for a new album, which could arrive after the current tour is done.
“There is a chance that we release one new song once a
month for a full year — it will be an iTunes exclusive, and fans can download them,” Miggs said.
The band is always looking for new and creative ways to deliver its music.
“Just when you think you know who we are, we’ll do something different,” he said.
And that is exactly what Miggs plans for its performances in Las Cruces.
On Friday, Miggs will host a “laid-back,” intimate acoustic performance, and on Saturday, the band will plug-in their electric guitars for an exhilarating rock act, both at Hurricane Alley.
Local rock band Bofus will join Miggs on Friday for a double rock shot.
